First we all need some background information about our newest English club member.
Graham, also known as GG, was born and raised in Woking, which is a town south of London, but he’s been living in Coventry for 5 years for University and then for work.

Not only in Sweden do we make our kids do orienteering as soon as they can walk (or even before…), Graham started his o-career with his father who wanted to get fit, as soon as he could walk. GG ran for a couple of clubs before Lidingö; In England: Mole Valley, Octavian Droobers and University of Warwick and in Norway: IL Tyrving. He then decided to join us because of our club trainings, high standard relay teams, great people to train with and ‘cos here’s a nice place to live and work.

With Graham in the island force we’ll hopefully get an even higher standard on our relay team. We have already seen him in the team that reached 4th place on Jukola 2007, but he has some other merits too: British Champion in Sprint and Relay (2nd place in Long and Middle), several medals in Junior European Cup, 9th place WOC sprint 2006. 6th place NOC 2007 relay, 6th place World Cup relay 2006 and a 7th place on the WOC relay 2007. From those event’s he also have gotten his best orienteering memories (“the bronze medal at my first Junior European Cup 2001, 9th place WOC sprint 2006, 4th place Jukola 2007”). But let’s hope he will receive even more and better memories in the future on some of the events on his goal list. GG’s short and long goals with his orienteering are the following: Podium positions and medals at WOC and World Cup, plus relay and individual success in Scandinavia.

Maybe we should hope that the world cup will have competitions in Scotland, ‘cos the sand dunes are Graham’s favorite terrain. He like it to be fast and technical. Favorite type of training is some kind of high speed orienteering, or intervals. As an orienteerer GG has the strength to perform under pressure, at high speeds but his weakness is that he sometimes get distracted by others, take risks and try too hard.

Do you wonder what Graham does when he’s not competing? Well he train, eat, sleep and occasionally do some coaching or make some maps. He’s already done some Lidingö mapping and hopefully you will run on them this year…

And finally we have some short Q & A:
Short or long distance: Short
Night or day: Day
Flat or hilly: Flat
First or last leg: Both are fun
Red or yellow juice? Red
Collective or separated sauna? Depends who is in it…

Favorite Säckatorp dinner: Giacomo’s home made pizza.
Freak show talent?: Best card trick in the world
Word or sentence you use often: You tell me
Other interests apart from orienteering: Running, films and cinema

So, we all have to wait to the next party to see this amazing card trick. But until then, join him for a run or a film!
